CRISIS
SERVICES
There
are situations that require immediate attention such as a child
or adolescent having suicidal or homicidal thoughts. Emergency services
are available through KYDC for children and adolescents twenty-four
hours per day, seven days a week.
There are several different ways that you can access crisis services
through KYDC and other emergency services.
-
Call 911 if the child or adolescent is in need
of immediate medical attention or is an immediate threat to hurting
or killing him/herself or others. Situations that may require
this type of response include when a child has actually swallowed
an overdose of medications or has seriously cut on him/herself,
or when a child is behaviorally out of control and is attempting
to hurt or kill someone else.
-
Take the child to the hospital emergency room.
If you are concerned that your child is at serious risk of suicide
or homicide, but do not need immediate medical attention at
your home, you can take the child to the Merle West Medical
Center Emergency Room where he/she can be held in a safe setting
while crisis assessment services are arranged.
-
Call KYDC during the daytime at 883-1030.
If you feel a crisis assessment for safety is needed, but immediate
medical attention is not necessary, you can call KYDC to set
up a crisis appointment. Our telephone screener will assess
the situation with you and make sure a crisis assessment is
set up as soon as necessary.
-
Call the hospital at 882-63ll after 5:00pm and ask
to talk to a KYDC on-call therapist. If you need to
talk with a mental health professional to get help over the
phone with an urgent problem, you can call 882-6311 and ask
to talk with the KYDC on-call therapist.
-
Bring the child directly to KYDC during business hours
(8:00am - 5:00pm). During business hours, you can come
directly to KYDC and inform us that you have a crisis situation
you need help with and you will be helped by one of our therapists
by receiving a screening and crisis assessment if necessary.
